Urban Tree Specialist
Erik von Luczenbacher
I had always been searching for my calling in life, and I found it while attending Sir Sandford Fleming College in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada. While studying Ecosystems Management another program at the college, I realized that my real interests lay with the tree courses offered within the program. Having grown up in the rural outskirts of Ottawa, I was no stranger to climbing trees and had spent entire days as a child doing just that. When I found out that the college offered an Arboriculture program, there was no question what I would do.
I graduated Top Climber in my class and was the recipient of the Davey Tree Bursary, and the Bartlett Tree Expert Award for Excellence. During my study time, I was also nominated for, and awarded a bursary from the Lakefield Horticultural Society. Once I had logged enough hours in the field, I went on to achieve certification by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
Today I continue to further my studies in Insect, Disease and Disorder Management, Beneficial and Aesthetic Pruning Techniques, Hazard Tree Assessment and Safe Removal Practices, Structural Correction and Reinforcement, Legal Rights and Obligations and Monetary Values of Trees. For the last 3 years I have had the privilege of teaching the Arboriculture class at Algonquin College in Ottawa, given to final semester students in the Horticulture program and have been invited to sit on the advisory committee for the program.
